teenager depressed and anxious

Hi,

My best friends 16yr. old son is a VERY anxious kid! He has a lot of different fears about many things, but he does function normally from day to day none the less. But, he is also somewhat depressed (a very negative outlook on life and just about everything) and he really can't get out of it. He would like to, I've talked to him about this, and he has definatley said he wished he wasn't like this, but that he can't help it. Is there any herb or whatever that he can take to help this insane situation? It's very hard for his mother to live with all the time as well, because he's SO negative about everything, it's depressing for her too!

He also suffers from bad digestive problems. He has lots of "gas" problems, and it seems that not to long after he eats, it just seems to go right through. He's not overweight, just normal for his age and height. He also is very tired all the time, from doing nothing. even if he gets a lot of sleep, he's still tired!

I'd really appreciate any help here!
