I have been diagnosed with FMS, but after several years of reading many ideas and studies and my experience I firmly believe that FMS is truly just a name they give to a really screwed up digestive tract that conventional and (sadly) some naturopaths have not/will not identify as the problem.

My FMS hit after a car accident, why I cannot explain, nor can anyone else. My dr's, bless them (someone has to) tried drug after drug, which I know screwed up my system. I was finally diagnosed as totally disabled.

Being a strong willed person, I did research as I could, and finally started taking an antioxident blend that made me sick as a dog! What an eye opening cleanse! I stopped for a week till my son was in school, and restarted. Since I had done that initial flush and suffered the rath of toxin movement, this time I did not have the same toxic reaction. Over the next couple of weeks I felt better and stronger than I had felt in a long time. Food for thought. Not too longer after I started a part time job (a stretch, but I survived).

I told my MD about the improvement and source, and while she was surprised she was accepting and encouraged my continuing the process.

Okay, so I regained some ability, finally going back to school to retrain to a job I could do (couldn't keyboard all day anymore). Nice. I'm at about 30%. NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!

My MD started me on a medication called neurontin. Now I could sleep better, and it did reduce the pain. I made the goal of being OFF it about 5 years ago. Nope, didn't happen, but I did finish a 2 year degree and now am working full time. Is my life complete? Nope. No where near.

I have long seen my symptoms as symptoms only, and I have taking the wisdom of the two-year-old and brought back the three letter word: why? In my studies I have read about leaky gut syndrome, and have justified it. It just took me a while (too long) to pull together a lot of other pieces to get to the real cause of my ills. I don't think that it's complex - strengthen the system. That's the trick, finding where the weakness is so you can remove the oogy boogies (parasites, bowel oogies, etc). Dr. Clark has given us some great (awesome!) information, and while we cannot have her personally diagnose all of us we can take her case studies and learn from them. Keep in mind, our pathetic profit driven society has brought us to a (not just unhealthy but) toxic lifestyle. Why I am affected more than someone else? Many variables. I do know several things:

1) I stopped taking the nasty ($#(*$&#) neurontin. I see now there is a lawsuit forming against the manufacturer re: secondary use (that's me) and depression/suicide (have had thoughts). I might join the lawsuit.

2) I have a zapper. It helps so much with my sleep, but read #3.

3) Did you know that serotin (sp) is formed in your gut? Without a healthy gut then you don't get that sleep inducing serotin. Thing about it on a primitive level. If you are vulnerable you will not sleep well or deeply. Law of nature. I rest my case.

I could go on for hours, but to sum it up, I am working full time at a stressful job, a major improvement over 4 years ago, though my off time is down time. I want more, hence I am here and I have enough evidence and experience to validate what I hear and read. Too much of what I read is bowel related, so I would suggest focusing there 1st (as dr. clark suggests).

At this time I see myself at 80% of "normal" for my age, which I really think is 50%. NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

Again, FMS is not specific, not accepted by some, and for good reason: it's the pimple, not the source. I have proven this with various muscle pains that could not be treated directly, but herbal/diet changes did the trick. Hmmmm. Always question.
