If you are looking to cleanse/detoxify, you can go on a raw foods diet and reap similiar benefits to fasting, only it takes more time. The cleanse/detox effect is much faster with fasting because of autolysis, which is essentially the body stopping digestion and focusing on ridding itself of damaged/diseased/dying cells. You do not go into autolysis when you eat or ingest protein.
I can't drink too many juices, either. I have some big gag issues with some types of juice. I live mostly on fruit juices (which everyone I know loves), carrots and small amounts of greens. I'll force down leafy greens here and there because the nutrients is needed. Lots and lots of water, too.
Whichever method you decide is best for you will do your body wonders. You can fast or you can go on a raw foods diet. I thought I heard that 1 year of raw foods equals 1 month of fasting, but don't quote me. :) My grandmother cured herself of cancer by macrobitoic dieting for 1 year. She got rid of psorisis (sp?) and felt like a teenager again. Diet is everything. It can make you or break you and as my husband always says, "don't do anything halfway. If you're going to do it, do it right."
Oh and as far as the juicer goes, the more expensive usually means the better they are. Some will just spit out mashed up pulp and some pure juice with no pulp. There are a few juicers that work well but don't cost major $, like the juiceman jr.
