Chlamydia
Okay. I am 20 years old and I have only had 2 partners in my life since the time I was 18. I had problems with abnormal pap smears, and my doctor told me I had been infected with HPV. I had never been tested for any other STDs until my last visit to the gyno Aug 1, 2005. 2 weeks later I was diagnosed with Chlamydia. The day of diagnosis I took the prescribed 4 pills of Zithromax to rid the infection. I waited 3 weeks before being tested again. The doctor called me one week later and informed me the infection had left my body and the test came back negative, so I am now chlamydia free. However, I am very scared for possiblities of PID.
I don't know who I got the chlamydia from since I had 2 different partners in a matter of 2 years. I contracted the HPV from my first partner (in 2002) and was diagnosed with HPV in 2003. Since then my pap smears have returned to normal. I did not have sex with the other partner until November of 2004. But because I did not have any STD testing until this August, I do not know who I got the chlamydia from. The thought scares me because it had been atleast 9 months since I had sex with either of them at the time I was diagnosed. This is further indication to me that I had been carrying the infection for at least 8-9 months before it was treated. I am aware that the longer the infection is present in the body, the more likely PID will develop. I am also aware that PID can also be a silent disease and many people do not even know they have it. I had no pelvic pain or any pain urinating at the time I had my last exam in August. I asked my gyno about the possiblities of PID and she said I don't have it because I was not experiencing any of the symptoms -- even though I now know it is sometimes asymptomatic.
I am wondering, what kind of pelvic pain is associated with PID? The past two days I have had soreness in that region, but I am not sure if it is associated with something else. I was doing hip curls at the gym to help build abdomincal strength and when I dismounted the chair, my hip felt like it had popped out of place. It didn't hurt very much, it was just an annoying feeling when I walked. I woke up the next day feeling very sore in that region and 2 days later it feels the same. My pelvic soreness could very well be from this, but I have been scared for PID for quite some time now and I knew pelvic pain is associated with the disease.
Is it likely PID could have developed when I did have chlamydia and symptoms are just showing up now? I do not seem to have any other symptoms other than pelvic soreness, however I recently had sex a week and a half ago and a few days later developed what I THINK was a yeast infection. I used monistat and within a day the itching and discharge went away.
Could that discharge and itchiness actually be a sign of PID? Does it cause any yeast infection-like symptoms? I'm just trying to rule out all possibilities to make sure I do not have it. With a period of 8-9 months of carrying chlamydia and just treating it a month and a half ago, could I have PID and not know it?
If anyone could help, please do. I am really scared.
Sorry this was such a book :(
