Bruce, I don't see things the way you do but rather than me try to convince you of what is in my view, I'll offer that it is God's place to illuminate the interpretation of the Word...of which there is only one. I'll give you a quick example...the healing list you have provided is not viewed by me as being given blanketly for believers of all future generations. In context it was a confirmation of the Word's ministry while He resided in a body of flesh and literally walked on the earth...He was God and only God could accomplish those things and only those plugged into Him as the power source could do likewise. Not that miracles and healings do not exist today...just that God will not override every single failure of man to provide a utopia without a change of hearts also being involved. He's not a Sugar Daddy in the sky...what we all want cannot be accomplished without total righteousness...something offered, something refused because man wants to put Him into a box and have a puppet for deeds to be done on demand while remaining "just fine as I am and don't need a Savior AND Lord". There are many so called "Christian" organizations and individuals that talk the talk(and even add to or take away from the real talk concerning how to be or stay saved, and are very short on abundant life in Christ) but in reality do not handle the Word of God in such a manner that provides agreement with other believers. How does anyone know who to listen to concerning what the Bible says and means? Listen to God first and allow preconceived notions or wrongful teachings previously learned fall to the wayside then test what others say to see if they line up with God. Tired of reading commentaries rather than rolling up the sleeves and digging for the truth on the Truth? Try inductive Bible study(many sources, many books) such as found here: http://www.precept.org You might want to consider a Lord series study offered by this ministry(their ultimate place is not to tell you what to believe but to help with tools to employ while studying...such as what is required when God refers to studying to show oneself approved, a workman not ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth) on the book of Habakkuk. It's a short book to read and the Lord study book is called Lord, Where are You When Bad Things Happen? Many resources can be had inexpensively on ebay.com. If you want to read a different commentary on 9/11 which to many is such a gross failure of God that doesn't go with the grain of this being a punishment from God for the United States as an ungodly nation...try reading the thoughts by John MacArthur. http://www.biblebb.com/files/MAC/undersiege.htm
