how to correct a hormonal imbalance?

Hey everyone, I need some advice...

I never had acne until about a year ago when I came off birth control (I was 19). Before that, I would get occasional blemishes, but nothing too bad; my skin was pretty healthy. The past year I have tried so many things and it seems to only be getting worse. I am 20 now, the healthiest I have probably been my entire life, and my skin (on my face at least) looks worse than ever. There were points in my life when I was eating terribly, drinking/partying all the time and under a lot of stress, but still had pretty clear skin. I just don't understand!

My self-esteem has taken such a beating that I have considered going back on the pill just to clear up my skin. I know it's not very holistic, but I would rather be on the pill and feel confident than be super healthy, depressed and no self-esteem.

So I guess I'm just curious how you guys feel about birth control and if you have any alternatives to correct a hormone imbalance, cause at this point, I am pretty confident that's what it is. I was on the pill for a year when I was like 14 (to regulate my cycle) and this past time I was on it for 2 years. I've been off for over a year now. Any thoughts?
