Tim, did you read my story regarding the Gleevec? It's under the "CJJ (Caroline's) cancer story" thread. I've posted it twice. This Aug. will be 3 years since I was given the 6 months to live speech when they found my GIST cancer. The 1st 9 months, Gleevec was not available to me and my cancer grew like wildfire and I thought I wouldn't make it. Then I was put on a 2 year clinical trial, which I just finished this month (June). I am still on the drug. My tumors did not shrink, but they did stabilize and haven't gotten any new ones. Thank God!

After a year and a half on the low dose trial of 400 mg. a day, I got terrible headaches caused by the drug. I have had to lower the dose to 200 mg. a day now. So far, so good. Even though the trial ended, I am still on the drug. Thank the Lord my insurance pays for it. In the beginning of my trial, the drug was free. Once past by the FDA for GIST, I had to start paying even though I was in the trial. People on the high dose costs $7,200 a month!!

I would like to find the right alternative therapy to kill this type cancer completly, as I have read many articles on the net and in magazines about how the cancer can get used to the Gleevec and start growing again..somehow outsmarting the drug even though it worked for a while.

Does your wife do anything else besides the Gleevec? I also take some natural things such as Graviola and also Ellagic Acid (from red rasberry) which is supposed to have the same action as the Gleevec. I'll see if I can find that article by some doctor about it.
