Dry fasting speeds up the process of water fasting, but usually isn’t recommended for more than 2 or 3 days at a time. It will accelerate healing and probably weight loss, but you have to be careful that you don’t let yourself become dehydrated. I’ve dry fasted for 2 days maximum, and I noticed that my hunger was easier to deal with than when drinking water. However, I think just drinking a minimal amount of water (sometimes just a few sips in a day) during a longer fast is safer and almost as effective. ... ... Hi Lisa, ... ... Thank you for your input, and congratulations on day 10! I don’t have any links to give you, but I know that anything besides water will get in the way of water fasting. If you add any kind of sweetener, then the calories would definitely prevent full ketosis (artificial sweetener is toxic so you wouldn’t want to use that either). As for tea by itself, I’m not really sure how the body reacts to it because it has no calories, but it still goes back to the fact that it interferes with the healing process. I’m not blaming it on God, or using Him as an excuse, but I can see how it can seem that way. Yes, I wanted to get over my addictions, but the main reason was to lose weight and keep it off. Watching tv may cause people to eat more, but eating more doesn’t cause people to watch tv. Chirontherainbowbridge, ... ... Thank you so much for the ideas! I will look up some recipes for the foods you mentioned. As far as the avocado, I have no clue why they don’t like it (I never use them when they’re brown), it’s my all-time favorite food! I’m sure I will try to feed it to them again, ”dressed up” a little. I’m still in the middle of breaking them off of the bad foods, so maybe in time they will acquire a taste for more good foods. Thanks again! ... ... Wendy [End]

Chrisb1, ... ... I just wanted to say thank you for helping Kevin with his questions. While I was juicing some fruits for my fiance last night, everything was calling my name. I could almost taste it just by the smell. Ask yourself, which do you want more, the benefits of the fast, or the pear? I have to constantly put things into perspective to even make it through the day. I won’t lie, it takes a LOT of effort and focus to resist temptation, but you can do it! ... ... Wendy [End]

Lilly, ... ... I’m sorry to hear about your struggle with eating disorders. I can relate to the binge eating, although I’ve never been diagnosed with BED by a doctor (I don’t go to the doctor except during pregnancy). My bingeing comes in waves, sometimes I have more control than other times. I am on day 3 of a water fast, and am hoping to cure myself of my food addiction also. I hope that you are doing this to heal yourself of the eating disorders, and not to shed the pounds you gained back. If you are doing this for true healing, then I wish you the very best and hope that you will succe ...

Don’t most people on this forum say drink according to thirst? So if we’re not thirsty the first day, why drink? I guess I’m missing the difference between a few sips of water and a day without. To me, dry fast means, ”I haven’t gotten thirsty yet so I will wait to drink until I am.” ... ... Wendy [End]

I’m his fiance, and I think his question may have been misinterpreted. He wasn’t asking if he should water or juice fast instead of dry fasting, he was asking if he should juice fast instead of water fast. He has had some water, and after that he decided to start a juice fast (or diet or whatever you want to call it). I understand that this is a water fasting forum, but he was asking about BOTH a water fast and a juice fast, in order to determine which was better for his situation. I suppose the juice fasting forum would tell him not to talk about water fasting. Oh well. ... ... Wendy [End]

From what I’ve read, detox symptoms are normal to experience well into the fast. Your body is probably tackling a new area of toxins, causing an increase in symptoms. I have a hard time sleeping while fasting also. As for the hunger, most likely it was just a craving. True hunger is in the throat and mouth and will not go away until you eat. Since you are aiming for 40 days, I would keep going. It will get better. ... ... Wendy [End]

I would like to go to a diet of mostly raw foods, no dairy (except for butter), a limited quantity of meat and eggs, and possibly get into the food combining thing. Since I don’t want to make turkey sandwiches everyday, I quit buying peanut butter, almond butter is too expensive, and the boys don’t like avocados, I’m at a loss of what to fix for them for lunch. I use Ezekiel bread, made from sprouted grains, and I would still like to make some kind of sandwich for them. I’m worried about just packing a simple salad and some nuts because people at the school might raise an eyebrow and ge ...

Thanks for the info about the oxygen, I didn’t know that. I have been going back and forth between distilled, spring, and filtered tap because I keep changing my mind about what is the best. I used to live on a piece of land that had a spring, and it tasted amazing and got stains out of my clothes like you wouldn’t believe. I also have been inside underground caverns where the tour guide said the water down there was some of the purest you can find. But the spring water I was buying recently tasted horrible and then there was still the plastic thing bothering me. If what you say is tru ...

Thank you for your advice. I found on my previous fasts that water did not help with hunger, it actually made it worse for me. It was like it woke up my stomach, whereas when I don’t drink any water, I barely even notice my stomach. Also, the acid feeling in my stomach and esophagus is much less when I don’t drink water. I’m not saying that water is bad during a fast, I just know that for me, I do better with a short dry fast to start things off. I always drink when I get thristy, so I’m still following the ”drink according to thirst” view of fasting. ... ... I don’t have a water distiller ...

I haven’t done a long water fast yet, so I don’t for sure how it will be for me. I just started one today, so I will find out soon! I’ve seen others write about junk food cravings disappearing on their fasts, and it only seems logical that given enough time, the body will learn to crave the right foods. But, of course, the mind can be a powerful thing, so if you tell yourself that junk is what you want, and ignore what the body wants, it is still possible to go back to the wrong foods. ... ... Today is the start of my water fast, which if all goes well, will be a fast to completion (until the return of real hunger). My goals are to overcome my food and alcohol addictions, lose weight, clear my mind and connect with God, and heal the damage I’ve done to my body over the years. My fiance is going to fast with me, both for support and also to try to heal some of his health problems. He has sinusitis, occasional migraines, and acid reflux. He’s going to be on a juice diet first, to make the transition easier, since he has to work. I work from home so I don’t have to worry about ...

I agree with chrisb1 and mouseclick. It is nearly impossible for me to follow any kind of restricted diet. Even when I tried to just eat as much as I wanted of the good foods, I still craved more and ate the junk on top of it, because I didn’t have the chance to clean out my body and rid myself of the addicting toxins. Also, the healing benefits of fasting are much more motivating than the benefits of a restricted diet. Not even comparable in my opinion. ... ... Wendy ... ... P.S. Lauray, ... ... I agree with InCharge that the bingeing afterward is not good for your health, so in that regard you are better off not fasting at all. I don’t think you have to be completely over a food obsession to fast, but if you know that you won’t have any self-control every time you end a fast, it would be wise to work on your willpower beforehand. There is nothing wrong with giving in to temptation to end a fast, it is how you end it that is the most important. Willpower doesn’t necessarily mean doing it all on your own either, it means having the will to take the steps to succeed, w ...

Lauray, ... ... I wish you the best on your new fast, good for you for trying again! You said that you are afraid of failing again, and I know all too well how that feels. However, even though I have a hard time accepting this truth myself, you CANNOT fail. Ending a fast early is NOT failure. If you can go any lenth of time at all, you are still helping your body to clear at least some toxins. Think of it as a milestone, not as the fast of all fasts. Each time you fast, you learn something about yourself, even if it seems that sometimes you slip even further backward down the path. You a ...

Lauray, ... ... I have been watching this forum for quite some time, and have wanted to post with my own story many times but decided to wait until I overcame some of my hurdles so I wouldn’t embarrass myself with my failures.
