"To demand that my country join an international treaty within the next 2 years that cuts global warming pollution by 90% in developed countries and by more than half worldwide in time for the next generation to inherit a healthy earth"

The above is part of the Live Earth pledge. The only way to reach such a goal is to make sacrifices--BIG sacrifices in the amount of resources we use--meaning lifestyle changes for EVERYONE, particularly for resource-greedy and resource-wasting Americans.

        From the article
        http://www.nbc11.com/entertainment/13635036/detail.html
"Live Earth Concerts End with Message of Hope":

"The theme at many of the concerts seemed to be that fighting global warming was not about sacrifice as much as it was about making little changes such as buying low-energy light bulbs or unplugging electrical outlets when they are not in use."

I'm sorry, but using energy efficient light bulbs and unplugging appliances is helpful, but a drop in the bucket of what we need to be doing; this is one reason why I argued with you that the Live Earth concert was more of a waste than anything else.

"...criticism of the event from many who asked why rock stars - with their jet-setting, high-consumption lifestyles - should be asking others to be more environmentally friendly. Others questioned how a concert without a clear-cut goal such as raising money could be effective." exactly. one pop star was even flown on a super-jet so he could get from Europe to the U.S. concert in 2 hours to perform--very energy efficient, eh?

you are right I was angry when arguing with you about the efficacy of such events. the concerts were great as far as the music went, but as far as meeting the goal of educating people about global warming, probably only so-so effective, as the rock stars didn't speak much about it "Many of the musicians acknowledged that they were not rock stars when it came to the environment"

...and as for actually causing people to change their lifestyle, ha! probably miserably ineffective--the survey you posted here shows that 29% of the people who took the survey didn't even think that global warming is an "issue"!
