As I have not done any research into the use of self-gratification as a preventative measure against prostate cancer, I cannot comment on that part of this discussion. However, your comment is not just relegated to that single issue. Instead, it seems to me that you are also bringing up the broader question of self-gratification and it's justification.
My question would be what is there to justify? self-gratification when not viewed from a traditional religious perspective is not harmful (as long as it does not become an addiction of course). Instead, it allows the individual to explore their own bodies, learn how to give and receive pleasure and express their individual sexuality. Those are all benefits that allow someone to be a sexually healthy individual. And I agree that it is inherently a habit of narrow self indulgence and thank goodness for that. What is wrong with indulging oneself? What is wrong with giving to yourself before giving to another?
I think too often people are stuck in a paradigm of sacrifice. We have been taught that to be a "good" person you must think of everyone else before you. Why? What is wrong with making sure that your own needs are taken care of. I also think that if you are comfortable and open with your own use of self-gratification and giving yourself pleasure you will be more open with a partner and providing them with pleasure. This leads me to another question. How willing will a person be to give someone else pleasure if they are not able to give themselves pleasure?
Not to mention that self-gratification can be fun, enjoyable, it can relieve stress, reduce frustration and hundreds of other positive health benefits. I guess my point is just for all of us to enjoy ourselves, our bodies and our sexuality. Add This Message To Your CureZone Favorites!
