Avocados and Grapefruits
Rediscovering some of the glories of avocados and grapefruits and a little mention of the current cleansing and zapping I am doing!

Today I once again remembered my great love for avocados. What helped remind me was reading about how avocados contain the enzyme called lipase which helps to clear out the old gunk that was put in the arteries and pipes in the body by the bad oils -- like fried oils, rancid oils and generally not-the-best-ever oils one has eaten.
I had forgotten about that. It reminded me about Victoria Boutenko saying how avocados helped her when she was losing weight years ago -- but better yet, it reminded me that *I* lost a *heck* of a lot of weight years ago eating about a 90% raw diet that included an AVERAGE of 4 (small Hass) avocados nearly every single day -- as well as olive oil...!
You see, what I did the first year and a half of my raw life was eat a lot of salads -- and salads just weren't good to me without lots of avocado and plenty of olive oil (and fresh garlic and sea salt). Back then I didn't know about Celtic sea salt yet. I tried going on a salt-free diet for a while but it did nothing for me and I returned to salt.
My number one mentor on most things raw and/or attitudinal is now David "Avocado" Wolfe, but back in those days I had not heard of him yet. In fact, I don't think he was quite raw yet. But man oh man, once he got started did you look at him go?! WHOA...!!! Anyhow, I'm really glad he likes using salt too. He in fact considers people stopping using salt altogether quite dangerous, and this hits just the right kind of tuning fork inside of me to hear him say that!!
But back to avocados. I love avocados. Always have, since I was about 6 years old and we lived next door to a big grandaddy of an avocado tree in Sierra Madre, California. It generously dropped avocados over the fence and into our driveway and I would sit there and peel and eat 'em straight and, yep, even without salt, haha! They are so creamy and delicious. No worries about getting too much sugar (and I have come to realize that if I'm not borderline diabetic I am most definitely "with psoriasis" on one foot still and that means I best keep the sugar load WAY down, donchano!!).
I love how when I eat an avocado I feel that I am getting something mild yet rich and pleasing. And I love, love, love it that it has the kind of enzymes in it that can actually help me LOSE weight. WOW....!!!!
And then grapefruits. I have a special love for grapefruits too that came later in life. My first craving when I was pregnant with my son was for Texas ruby red grapefruits. For a couple of weeks in my first trimester that's most of what I ate on many days. I must have gone through 30 lbs. of grapefruits!
Later, when my son had been living on nothing but mother's milk for something just a little over a year, grapefruit was the first thing he ever asked to eat. I couldn't believe it. I said, "No, Tristan, babies don't like sour things!" but he kept reaching out his hands and making noises until I relented, saying, "Okay, but you're not going to like it!"
Boy was I wrong. For about the next year I didn't get to each much grapefruit because every time I peeled one he kept me busy peeling them for him!
Anyhow, I like it about grapefruit that I don't have to worry about the sugars like I do with oranges, and I don't feel a desire to add sweetener like I do with lemons and limes. But best of all, I also found out recently that grapefruits also have a special enzyme in them that is very helpful in dealing with undigested proteins! Maybe this is why I feel so good when I eat them?
I don't know. I know that whatever I eat, my habit has been for quite a long time -- quite simply -- to eat too much. Somehow simplifying seems to slow me down a bit. And knowing the avos are chomping on my fat and the grapefruit is chomping on my undigested protein feels really good too.
Today I had the yam chips with guacamole by the way. My BIG apologies to anyone who may have made that yam chip recipe using the olive oil. I realize now that I must have been out of my mind back when I used to fix them that way all of the time. I'm going for the DRY chips from now on -- but easier to fix, faster, cleaner, better!! But today it was still all right eating up those messy "greasy" ones. (smile)
Today my Saladmaster 316 Ti (Ti stands for titanium) 5-quart pot arrived - yay!!! Now I will be brewing my winter teas all winter and into spring and beyond and it is safe to say I shall NOT be shattering my pot -- NOR getting any contaminants leaching into my tea from the pan. Awesome!!
Hadn't mentioned it yet, so may as well mention it now: I am also on about day 31 of a 100-day cleanse of "unwanted guests" in my body of whatever teeny or tiny size. It's basically taking 2 capsules each of black walnut hull, Kroeger's Wormwood Combination and Kroeger's cloves 3 times a day. Hannah Kroeger would not have recommended going over 30 days on a such a cleanse, but I'm following David Wolfe's advice of going it for 100 days because this makes sure that any unhatched eggs of future generations, etc. are dealt with as well!
I also use a Terminator zapper -- kind of working on evicting unwanted hangers-on from the outside and the inside at the same time between using the capsules and using the zapper which makes a noise I can't hear and they can't stand. Well, that is how it can been explained to me -- and it sounds good to me!!
