day four fasting/purification

I'm glad I quit coffee before I decided to fast. I do believe it made a difference. I have not had any coffee cravings except for yesterday. I saw the Starbucks and wanted to go in and get a coffee and scone. That's my automatic response to stress. I'm happy to say I didn't cave in and try to park in that murderous traffic of NYC. Thank God it was on the other side of the street :D I didn't realise how much FOOD is a part of my life till I stopped eating it. I obsess about it. I even think of eating raw sandwiches *LOL* It's totally mental you see. This is my fourth day of fasting and the experts say that you don't really begin till well into the third or forth day of fasting. I had a bowel movement today and it was a relief because I woke up with a lot of gas. It was smelly and had a lot of mucus. I was a little cranky yesterday evening too but that could be PMS.

How many of us believe that when we get sick, that a doctor is going to save us from pain and death? We just assume that the technology is going to be able to repair us when we break down, by giving us a pill, a treatment or a surgery. We are so alienated from our bodies that we think that a doctor knows more about us than we do. The reality is that doctorís donít have the cures that we need, what is offered by the traditional system of healers is only the possibility to treat our symptoms never being able to cure us or root out the cause. When we take these kinds of treatments to suppress our symptoms then that cause, which is the underlying reason we are sick, goes unattended, then in fact our illness continues to grow. We will never be healthy until we take responsibility for our own health . We need to stop blaming the outside for making us sick, whether it is corporations, a person, our immediate environment or a government, and to recognize instead that our sickness is a symptom telling us something is inside needs to be addressed. For sure there are outside influences that we canít control, but there is much that we can control by taking responsibility for ourselves and working to change our habits.
The purification side of this happens at bikram yoga where I discover places that I didn't know had sweat glands *LOL* Last night I got a good sweating. The middle-front of the room is way hotter than the back. Sweating is excellent to purify the skin.
