I am in desperate need of help. I am a 36 year old woman who use to live my life to the fullest. I was energetic and always doing something...that was until April 20th 2007. When I woke up that mornng I knew something was wrong. It was like a switch was flipped off in my body. I was extremely tired, and my muscles were so weak I could barely get myself out of bed. I was nauseous and vomitting bile. I pushed myself to go work thinking that it would pass, but I only was able to make it an hour at work before I went home. That night around 7pm I started feeling a little better so I was releived thinking it was just a stomach virus, but to my surprise when I woke up the next morning the symptoms were back again and just as strong. I went to the doctors and they started running tests. I have gone to specialist after specialist and have had a MRI of the abdomen/pelvis/bile ducts, Ultrasounds, CAT Scans of my pancreas/liver, Colonoscopy, Endoscopy, and lots of blood work and the diagnosis after all of this was mono (epstein-barr virus). My instructions were to rest and I will get better.
Well now it is going on 7 months later and I am not better. I lost the life that I once knew. I don't have the strength to do things with my friends, I can't work and ended up losing a job that I loved and worked at for 5-years. I am trying to remain positive, but it is getting harder and harder everyday to do so. Emotionally I am having a tough time dealing with how much my life is different, physically I feel horrible, and financially I am struggling to pay my bills. I never thought I would be 36 and applying for social security disability benefits.
I am not giving up though, and I don't think any of us should until we get answers. I am now staying with my parents in Florida and I went to a new doctor who was great. He listened to me and promised he would get me better. We both agreed that there might be a Yeast Connection to my symptoms and the reason why I am sick. He put me on Diflucan...3x a week for the first week, and then 1x a week for the next couple of weeks. He also feels I am not getting a deep sleep so he put me on a sleeping pill called Rozeram. He also wanted me to see another endocrinologist down here in Florida since with my other blood test my ACTH levels was slightly off at 36. I started the new medicines and can't really tell a whole lot of difference yet.
I went to the new endocrinologist in Florida, and she sent me for a ACTH stimulation test. The endocrinologist said that if the test comes back normal then we have to give validity to the other doctors diagnosis of mono (epstein-barr virus). I just had the test done yesterday, and although I don't want to have anything major wrong with me, I am 100% that there is some kind of problem with my adrenal glands. From what I am reading and researched on the web, adrenal glands can be functioning 20 percent below normal and the rest of your body experiencing symptoms of adrenal fatigue, yet most mainstream physicians won't recognize that you have a problem because that is still considered in normal range.
I haven't received the test results back yet but I need somebodies help to point me in the right direction of what to do next if yet another doctor tells me this is mono and now the latest diagnosis of chronic fatigue syndrome/fibromyalgia. I know it is not the mono virus that is causing all of this!!!!! Where can we turn, who can help us? Maybe we should call Oprah or Dr. Oz.....somebody please help. I just want my fun life back. I know I am not alone with this, I hope with all of this we can help each other.
