Hi--I wanted to share with you & anyone else who's interested more about the mudras. These are sacred hand signs, you see them in about every culture throughout history-- esp. statues of Hindu deities, and the many paintings & engravings of Jesus, and other saints. Mudra comes from the root mud "to rejoice". They are said to seal/lock certain energies and states of consciousness. A biomagnetic field can be found emanating from the hands of a healer, likewise specific hand gestures can put you in touch with the various healing frequencies. I feel anyone can generate this biomagnetic field if they put their mind to it, esp with the help of the mudras. One of my favorite mudras is the one for Tranquilizing the Mind:
"This ancient mudra was given by Buddha to his disciples to please and tranquilize their minds. It short-circuits worried, obsessive energy and replaces it with a calming, helpful vibration." - from "Healing Mudras, Yoga for Your Hands" by Sabrina Mesko
I taught this one to a very stressed-out businessman and as soon as he made the gesture his eyelids became heavier and I thought he might fall asleep right in front of me, lol.
How to do it? Sit with a straight spine. Bend the elbows and bring hands at the level of the navel. Bend the index fingers toward the palm, press them together along the second joint. Extend both middle fingers w/ finger pads touching & point them away from the body. Curl the other fingers into your palm & touch the thumbs together at their tips, pointing toward you. Hold the mudra a few inches
away from the body, elbows & hands are at the same level. Deep, long breaths. Focus on point between eyebrows and repeat this mantra mentally with each breath:
"MAN HAR TAN HAR GURU HAR" which is sanskrit for Mind with God, Soul with God, the Divine Guide and His Supreme Wisdom. There is usually a mantra used with each one.
I have two books on mudras, one by Dr. Dale Schusterman called "Sign Language of the Soul" and the one by Sabrina Mesko which can be found on
Sabrina is, to my knowledge the only Westerner to know the mudras, she was taught by the Eastern Master Yogi Bhajan. She says that 3 minutes a day will bring about profound changes in any area you choose to focus on. They simply liberate the blocked energy channels. Schusterman uses Kabbalistic hand mudras in his practice, which he mostly developed on his own. He was mentor to my ND who uses them also, so that is how I started working with mudras initially. I would recommend Sabrina's book, his methods are much more complex. I really hope more people find out about them, they are truly Divine. Lemme know if you have any other questions : )Blessings and Happy V-day to everyone!
