Hey QE, I am going to throw this story of mine out there, although I don't necessarily think it is going to help your friend in the shorterm, but I do think it is somewhat interesting. I took some aspirin between 2001 and 2004. Not a lot, but three or four courses lasting up to a month. There is a history of heart disease on both sides of my family and my parents pushed me in to doing it, even though I had never had a single tablet before that. I am 41 now. Well, in 2004 I cut up a baby aspirin into quarters and took a quarter. Instant, massive pain. Felt like I had been shot in the gut. My stools were black and tarry for three days - I was bleeding somewhere in my gut, because the blood was getting digested, and my health has never been the same since. It is probably the single biggest reason I am here now and have sought treatment through alternative medicine.
Anyway, immediately after this episode, when the dust settled, my stools went completely pale. And my stools and gas had zero smell to them. And I went from at least two bm's a day to strictly one in the morning. And I gained 15 pounds in a heartbeat, and my weight doesn't fluctuate much. And this lasted for 4 years. Also, I went to the Mayo clinic in 2005 and, yeah, it was a crackerjack operation - but I did learn one thing. Because I had stomach problems when I was very young they did an endoscopy - and they found a massive amount of bile in my stomach (or intestines, can't remember) - and it shouldn't have been there because I had been fasting for at least 12 hours. Couldn't explain it.
Anyway, fast forward to May 2008. It all disappeared one day. And it was because of a homeopathic I was on through my kinesiologist, although we weren't treating that specific problem (I actually was on several at the time). He says that happens a lot. A patient will say that a problem they didn't tell this guy about has disappeared when they were treating something else with his homeopathics. My stool returned to a more normal, darker color, some smell returned to it, and I lost the 15 pounds in three weeks. Essentially my metabolism returned to normal when my "bile system" returned to normal. I am convinced that at it's core it was a liver issue. Those aspirin courses decimated my liver in ways I still don't completely understand, and I was also taking some allieve at the time. On a side note, I remember a whole big blowup between ML and Corinthian a few years ago, and while I can't remember all of the details, Corinthian was saying that weight gain/loss strictly boils down to calories in/calories out, and I have learned first hand that this is not true. Metabolism is very complex and a lot of things can go wrong.
I will also relate some interesting stories between me, my liver, and my kinesiologist. Early on during my treatment with him, in 2005, I had him test me for apples. Most people swear by them here. It has always caused me a problem - a very bad feeling like your body is being compressed. Been there since I was born and was most obvious when drinking apple juice. Turned out he could see that it was causing a bad liver reaction and I fixed it with homeopathics, although I still try not to drink too much.
I was hounding him for a long time that my liver had major problems (beyond apple juice), yet his tests didn't show it. And these muscle tests were mainly to see if my body craved some of the liver regeneration herbs, such as milk thystle. Anyway, one day I finally insisted, and he did a very complex, laborious, time consuming test and could see that I had a bad bacterial infection in my small intestine that was causing my body to misread my liver - so essentially it wasn't functioning properly because of this. Fixed it with homeopathics. It had been there for a long time, and I had been on numerous antibiotics in the meantime, but it never cleared. At that point I had never done colloidal silver, so it is possible that that would have done the trick, don't know.
I used to chew tobacco for many years, but gave it up one month after the aspirin incident. It seemed to be compounding problems, but nothing I could put my finger on. But I had chewed it for over 15 years with no issues. Took it up last summer and boom, immediately I could see that it was now extremely bad for me. Brought it into my kinesiologist and he could see that it was now causing major liver problems. Put me on a homeopathic. This guy is veryyyy good. He could tell immediately during the muscle test that the homeopathic would only clear up 60% of the problem. Sometime later I had him test out a supplement to balance the other 40% and it was selenium.
When I bought my house in 2000, I did a massive amount of staining with polyeurothane. Never an issue. Could have breathed it all day. Was around it for the first time since the aspirin incident last year and just about died. Finally brought it into him to test on me last week and it causes major liver problems now. He tested out two homeopathics that clear it, but on a hunch he tested me on this bovine supplement that he uses. He stopped using it for awhile because patients were worried about mad cow, but just started putting people on it again. It tests to clearing up 50% of it......and while homeopathics can take two to three months to feel some effect, supplements usually take no more then two weeks, and I was feeling better in two days. I do remember that you are a big proponent of bone broth, I just never got my shit together to try it out.
Anyway, QE, I am more just throwing out this story. Probably doesn't do your friend any good. His only problem may be gallstones. In my case the bile issue was really a liver issue. And I do think Trap is right when he says that without a proper functioning liver then nothing else really matters. Anyway, good luck....
Edit - One think I want to emphasize - I have had since early on in life certain liver issues, and have since developed others, probably equally or more likely much worse then the genetic ones. But the two biggest things here on curezone that get touted to treat them - the liver flush and milk thistle, have done nothing for me. Certainly am not going to say that this is the case for everyone, just pointing out that the liver is very complex and there are a lot of things that can go wrong, and thus, many different solutions that need to be tailored for the individual..... Although obviously there are certain things the liver needs to function properly that everyone will need.
