From what I understand, the label "100% organic" means food that has been grown without herbicides or pesticides in soil that has not had those applied for at least three years, and usually means no inorganic fertilizers. Big deal, when the half-life of some of those chemicals is 50 years or longer! And of course there is spray drift and water runoff from adjacent fields that are not "organic".
The label saying just "organic" means that up to 5% of the content can be non-organic. And "mostly organic" means up to 30% of the content can be adulterated (non-organic).
None of the above labels have a thing to do with how mineral and nutrient rich the soil is or is not, or whether the soil is maintained properly and not over-farmed so that soil micro-organisms are plenty and have time to convert minerals to forms that can be taken up and digested by plants.
I don't know what the heck "all natural" or "natural" is supposed to mean - after all, they are touting refined sugar as "natural sugar" and "pure sugar". Don't those Snapple Ads for "we've found better stuff" just make you want to go gulp down gallons of it?
You can pretty well bet that the increased demand for "organic" produce will result in slacker regulations, looser interpretations and loopholes to let the big agri-business companies and their GMO, pesticide and herbicide laden and petro chemically fertilized crops cash in and co-opt the organic food market the same as mainstream medicine has been co-opting natural and alternative health treatments and supplements.
Look around and you will see that it is already happening.
Isn't eugenics wonderful?
If farmers had stored the seeds from early times, they could grow good cherries today, but the government is supporting the plan to decimate the "free" fertile species towards a patented genetically modified ones, so soon, if you didn't store the seeds for yourself NOBODY will have good seeds to plant, and getting new ones born from the grown seeds will be not possible.
I'm seriously worried about that, because when the day comes, when the few survivors will decide to release patents to prevent human extintion the natural seeds will be long extinguished.
