I love chia seeds, not just because they are a sustainable and environmentally friendly crop with great nutritional value ...... but because they are so wonderful to add to raw smoothies and raw desserts. They are almost tasteless, so can be added to lots of stuff as a thickener.
I use some chia seeds, soaked in water for 30 minutes, then add some raw cacao and a little agarve or raw honey ... whizz up in the blender .... and you get: Raw jelly!!!!!!!!
I also think chia is a great substitute for flax, since most of us are already exposed to too many estrogens.

Well, I have made some raw crackers with them in the dehydrator ... mixed with flax (because chia is pretty expensive if you use it in bulk)
Did you know the Mayans used to make biscuits with chia and take it with them to war? ... it's very good for stamina/energy.
This morning, I made a massive 1 litre smoothie - 1 tbs of hydrated chia, 1 tbs maca, 2 tbs cacao, 2 tbs mesquite, 1 tbs Dr Schulze's superfood, 1 tbs spirulina, 1 tbs coconut oil, 1 tbs coconut butter, 1tbs honey, 1/2 tsp himalayan sea salt, 1/2 tsp each of ho shou wu, schizandra, suma - plus opened up 3 caps of reishi ... added water and some raw hazelnut milk and some coconut water kefir ...
Lots of energy there!
Well, it's 5pm my time, and I'm just a little peckish now :-)

This is a reply to # 1,498,891yes, it was the thought of Mayans (and Native Americans on forced marches :-( ) taking just a T. of the plain seeds and this serving their nutirional needs for long hours that was inspiring to me.
Your food delights are always so plentiful!
I misspelled it "plantiful". nice, NICE! as Z says.
they are a bit expensive to use the way you'd use flax. Wow, I had some delicious crackers this summer. Flax-based, very flavourful that a friend made, and they had a lot of dill in them, which normally I don't like, when it's dried. But mmm. Really good. I'm starting to clearly picture some more. Different taste. Does that mean they are coming togther in the ether?

This is a reply to # 1,498,893I can't remember if I said, about why this was cross-posted in Eyesight. :-)
And I know some people only really scan a post, often not even that. It was because I read that just a seed in the eye could 'clean up the eye', which of course makes perfect sense!
It's really as Anastasia says: this planet is bursting with the will and wish to simply be of service. Isn't it amazing how we humans can wall ourself off from that perfect Will, and instead doggedly and often so bitterly (that is, without any sweetness or joy) persue our own?
I know I did that for a long time, thinking I was actually "working hard" at my own liberation. Turns out the very concept of working so hard is utterly paddling upstream. - Re: chia seed marcelaolega

Unfortunately I'm in the UK ... so whatever you buy in the US, we expect to pay at least double that price here :-(
For example, you can buy a Vitamix or Blendtec for half the price of what we pay.
I used to have quite a lot of stuff shipped from the US, but with the current $ - £ exhange rates, it's not worth the hassle at the moment.
From your avatar, I guess you do a lot of wheatgrass and sprouting? I planted a lot of outdoor wheatgrass this summer but eventually got sick of the taste. I prefer the taste of spelt or barley, but then it all became too time consuming. I like BarleyMax better.
I've got 2 Easygreens - this has revolutionised my life :-) I would like to get another 1 or 2 to stack on top at some stage.

This is a reply to # 1,499,342I sprout a lot of sunflower greens and some buckwheat during the warmer months here in central Illinois.I can relate to the poor taste and versatility of grass.I have some pics. of my sproutings in the Image Gallery in the photos section under grassmans sprouts.Today the apples grapes and honey are in season locally.Harvest time is glorious but winter is close at hand.Be well.

This is a reply to # 1,498,851talking about chia seeds and flax seeds, there is a great website that compare the two very well, on chia-direct website you can read that chia is the winner due to higher numbers for calcium, phosphorus and fiber and especially because it's a complete protein

This is ironic to me. I recently learned that Chia seeds were healthy for you. Like most people, I thought that Chia seeds were simply what came with the Ch-Ch-Chia pets. I had no idea that you could eat them. Now I find this article linked above.. chia seeds are even discussed in this list of healthy seeds!
Can you buy Chia seeds anywhere?

This is a reply to # 1,499,576Well yes you can and you can go to youtube and watch some videos on chia seeds.They are user friendly once you make the basic gel which will keep for a week in the fridge.They can be exspensive unless you buy from a bulk dealer.I find a little chia goes a long way.But I do not use a dehydrator or get into making chips and stuff.
