So I am POUNDING the probiotics and taking glutamine, and my stools have gone from green to brown. I started to udse some charcoal
Charcoal absorbs nutrients as well. It really should be avoided.
and slippery elm, and I don't know, I got a little foggy again. I am just water fasting today to give my system a break.
I had a cdsa done a while back when I got sick. I did a pci test too. Yeast only showed as a 1, but beneficial bacteria was at a zare, no growth. My doc didn't pay attention to that. I have had to do my own research and realized the reason I wasn't absorbing is because I had no good bacteria! And the probiotics I was taking were garbage. I bought some expensive ones. Primal defense and Ohhiras. But I still need to fix my gut.
Am I on the right path?
Yes.
I react to dairy, so can't de kefir.
There are many non-dairy kefirs such as water kefir, coconut kefir, etc. I prefer kefir to powdered probiotics.
I have cut out all grains too. Should I do rice bran though? I have been juicing, but I guess the probiotics need fiber?
Yes, you need to feed the flora with fibers if you want them to grow, survive and generate their beneficial compounds such as acids, vitamins and bacteriocides. Rice or oat bran are good choices as well as dietary gums (xanthan, guar, kojac, etc.).
How do I get things growing properly?
Introducing the probiotics such as kefir, feeding them with fibers and adding some yucca root powder will help.
I have a perscription for flagyl. My doc said I could try that with the probiotics. Not sure though.
Prescription drugs just have too many health risks.
THey want to run another test through metametrix. It's expensive. But it might show if there are bad anerobes...?
There most likely is an overgrowth of bad bacteria since you have a lack of good bacteria to get them in check. Building up your flora will keep the numbers of bad bacteria down.
Would taking the antibiotics be a bad idea?
Yes, especially when they kill the good bacteria that you need to build up.
Leo Galland treats people with flagyl and probiotics along with diet. Woudl it be a bd thing to try?
Would not be my choice. These pharmaceutical drugs are not only dangerous they are not addressing the root of the problem either. Again the goal should be to restore the levels of beneficial bacteria since these are what control the bad bacteria and Candida in the gut.
Can the bacteria feed on vegetable fibers? My main source of carbs is veggies. Otherwise, how much oatbran should I have with my probiotic (powdered form until I get my act together to make water kefir)?
Vegetable fibers will work, but not all vegetables are high in fiber. So focus on high fiber vegetables such as celery and carrots.
