When i started this fast i was thinking i might go a day or two but once i got passed the first 2 days I knew i wanted to go longer but wasn't sure how long. At some point i began to anticipate maybe about 30 days or so (as was the case in the past 3 fasts)... not a set number of days, but very roughly and dependent upon various factors.
In listening to my body, mind and soul i was surprised when it seemed to be time to break the fast at 17 days. In any case i strongly feel that i broke at the right time, definately on an up note and with a substantial feeling of physical hunger which is pretty rare for me in a fast... and this physical hunger was accompanied by an extremely strong emotional desire to eat healthy foods. The physical hunger in this case most definately was not genuine hunger and i am confident i could have made it to 30 days if i really wanted to.
It had been about 7 months since my most recent fast of 36.5 days.
Reasons for the fast: To make another positive dent in allowing my damaged heart to be healed further along, to grow closer and closer to the elimination of all toxemia (an exciting life goal for me), and to gain any and all other benefits which i am confident to receive each time i fast.
I might do another fast in 2-4 months and in the meantime i am excited to eat with immense largely organic nutrition and exercise (muscle training, high intensity cardio and moderately intense cardio too), all in the quest to achieve the most optimal level of health possible. My desire to eat for health is sensationally high as is my love for the taste of vegetables and fruits.
Mighty well done I say.
Spontaneous fasts are always a delight for me, usually briefer than yours and no water. I love the ease of that process. And the related ease of picking up where one left off so to speak.
Most times no effects on my normal activities.
I do wish this was true for me and hopefully one day soon it will be. While i felt relatively strong and energetic when i broke (for a fast, but not compared to when i'm eating), my energy levels easily tripled the very day i broke it and i was able to comfortably become productive again on that first day. Something i noticed is that i had been walking up stairs over the past 17 days and my natural tendency to run up any flight of stairs i encounter returned the very day i broke the fast.
You mention your delight in eating fruit and veg. For me the sensate experience of food and eating is beautifully enhanced by fasting. A fine enhancement to my life.
T2 i couldn't agree with you more. In the past (before i truly turned the corner and became health centered in my eating about 2 years ago) once i had aquired a taste for junk foods there was very little desire for vegetables or fruits and they tasted very unexciting compared to doughnuts or french fries. Fasting absolutely helped to return my body to it's natural state of having a deep appreciation for whole natural foods and having no interest in eating the other stuff.
Delighted for your Mighty Sun Tzu, T2.
Thanks a million T2 :).
Lovely ! Congrats Mighty !
I know you would do all the right steps refeeding your body ,lol

Thank you so much miss :). Yes i expect it to go very well. I believe that because i emerged hungry and feeling quite good i did not have to be quite as gradual as has been the case on other occasions and as such after breaking with orange juice and then pineapple juice, i have been able to comfortably enjoy whole fruits and veg's in moderate quantities.
First few mini meals:
Orange juice slowly sipped and "chewed" (about 1/8 cup then 5 minute wait, then about 1/2 cup)
Pineapple juice (about 1/2 cup),
Pineapple juice again (about 1/2 cup).
1 Whole raw tomato (carefully and thoroughly chewed),
Fresh vitamixed soup from 4 tomatos with curry and cayanne
About 1 cup of very carefully chewed honeydew melon (after the watermelon was discovered to be expired)
cup of organic miso soup (a little risky maybe, but i felt fine afterwards)
cup of whey protein powder drink
cup of chamomile tea with honey
Mighty....What a pleasant surprise to turn on my computer, and find your post. Well done!! I am rendered speechless because I had no idea you were Fasting...nor I suspect did anyone else. I like the way you waited until the Fast was over before telling us about it. A Lesson for all.
Thank you WY,
For you to be rendered speechless i really must have done something right :).
Best wishes in your quest for Healthier Eating. Herein lies the 'Secret'.....WY
Yes truly this is an essential. I finally began eating for health about 2 years ago and have never looked back. Thanks again for your well wishes.
wow: triple R'd, someone got excited!
Yes imagine my surprise : ).
hi Sun, it's always a pleasure to hear from someone who just goes ahead and does it, quietly, and listens to their own inner voice, and stops when they are UP.
Nice!!
Thank you Chiron, i am really happy how it all went : ).
and the end of your fast coincided with the solar flare particles coming into earth's orbit. could you feel it?
:-)i'm not really kidding...It's still going on...
I knew nothing about this until you mentioned it and sadly i didn't notice it : (.
Mighty.....How is the Healthier Diet going?
It's been going great for about 2 years now. Really loving it.
I would Love to be able to do what you did....long fast, then a permanent change of diet.
I'm working on it.....WY
I trust that it will happen for you soon. In the fast where i accomplished this, i was reading a lot about healthy nutrition and this helped quite a bit in heightening my motivation and strengthening me in my resolve.
Congratulations, Mighty, on your accomplishment.
You mentioned, "I trust that it will happen for you soon. In the fast where i accomplished this, i was reading a lot about healthy nutrition and this helped quite a bit in heightening my motivation and strengthening me in my resolve".
I did not know that you credit your healthy diet success to a fast. I was surprised. I thought that you were always a very self-disciplined person perhaps coming from your upbringing or just from enjoying a fruit of the Spirit as you seek Him. I would sure like to hear more about your experience in this as I would someday like to experience this too. I am looking for this kind of success both from water fasting and from seeking the Spirit of God. I seem to be lacking in both areas. I was doing pretty good, but the holidays really got me off. I have been doing better lately, but I am nowhere near where you are. I do wish you would share more about your experience of becoming delivered from the SAD diet. :)
"Just wanted you to know your post really did help me. It just reminded me of all the things that I was already trying to practice, but I had put them aside, got off and forgot. Your post motivated me to started listening to Dr. Fuhrman's audio again. What motivation is in those tapes. It really does help me to keep my brain washed with what is right so that I don't forget. Thanks for everything."
Hi Rainy, I'm sorry i just noticed this post after all these months. I thought i was signed up for message alert, but have never once been alerted.
It has been true for me as well that important pearls of wisdom for our health get set aside and temporarily forgotten only to be re-discovered later. Periodic fasting has really helped keep me in touch with these important ideas. I like what you said here: "What motivation is in those [Dr. Fuhrman] tapes". Having never listened to them i shall have to do so : ). Thank you for your message.
amazing! congrats. I think they key here is not that you didn´t last as long as other times but how you feel so confident you can spontaneously fast, and 17 days is quite impressive.
Thank you 3rdDay for your kind words : ).
Are you getting more used to fasting to the point where it dosn´t interfere your everyday life as much?
Sadly no : ), but hopefully one of these days i can fast and feel fully energetic. Part of it is that i do try to rest as much as possible. Even when i have to work, i lay down the remainder of the day and night. This resting allows my system to slow way down and detoxify more strongly.
I did feel pretty strong in the 30 day fast where i briskly walked 2 hours per day, but I don't do this any more because i don't believe it is the best way to fast. It kept my body from slowing down as much as possible and from resting, detoxifying, and healing as deeply.
