There are sites reporting a new and reportedly more accurate Lyme test. Here is a statement from the Lab with more specifics than the letter put out by Burascano last month.
A few key points from the announcement:
Cost will be between 2 and 500 dollars.
Length of time: 6 weeks. Generally it takes only 10 days but because some cultures can take up to 6 weeks all tests will be held 6 weeks.
Unlike the western blot the test will be of what is currently in the body, so it will be able to be helpful in tracking progress.
The test is not currently available, and can only be done through a docs office. No instructions/supplies will be mailed to individuals.
If this test is what they claim, and the medical community accepts it, then:
1. IDSA docs testing patents will generate tons less money than they did in the past.
2. Newly infected people will get treatment more often.
3. One could test to get accurate feedback on how Lyme treatment is going and make decisions based on that.
