"Leah, I had something similar happen in high school. I now think it was related to Sjogren's, but at the time I didn't know anything about that. My doctor gave me some anti-viral pills, thinking it might be an out-of-control cold sore, and that made a HUGE difference. Any chance you might be experiencing something like that? The bumps you're seeing, the yellowish/clear crust, and the extensive dryness on your lips that won't go away all sound like what happened to me."
I had an anti-nuclear antibodies test done (ANA) and it was negative. 70% of Sjogren's syndrome patients are positive, so I have that much confidence I don't have it. I will get more tests after my antibacterial treatment is completed, perhaps including the biopsy.
Interesting...In some cases, there is a link between Sjorgen's Syndrome and Gluten Sensitivity. I just read in this article that Sjorgen's Syndrome can be reversed by a gluten-free diet...if gluten is causing it. But, the gluten-free diet needs to be started early on. Advanced cases cannot be reversed with a gluten-free diet. It does not state why.
