I know for a fact that it was not the Triamcinolone Acetonide cream that gave me results. I know this because I discontinued using it a long time before using the probiotics. In fact, the Triamcinolone Acetonide cream made my lips worse. It would dry the hell out of them to the point that my lips felt like they were glued together. The Triamcinolone Acetonide I was prescribed came as a dental paste and not a cream.
As of today, I occasionally apply coconut oil to my lips because even Bepanthen didn't seem to be agreeing with me at one point so, I have stopped using it completely.
I honestly don't know what caused my EC to go into a dormant state. But I do know that by me fasting (basically eating one meal a day) and taking the timed release probiotics in conjunction with using the Bepanthen cream turned the tide of my battle with EC.
I STRONGLY suggest that your doctors are totally sure that you do not have any type of secondary bacterial infection before going that route with a steroid. Steroids make bacterial infections much worse.
I went to an oral pathologist and it wasn't until he told me that he no longer detected abnormal microbes in my culture/biopsy test is when I tried to attack the deep inflammation I had in my lips. I could see super red small veins in my lips when I used a neutral white LED flashlight and tried to look deep within the tissue. I knew that for as long as I had that redness there my EC was going to continue the way it was.
I said it before and I will state it again that I am not 100% cured. I never stated this anywhere. I only stated that I managed to place my EC in a dormant state and it was from the introduction of those specific probiotics that I posted before. I stated before that the reason why I posted about them was because they worked for the specific level my EC was in. I also mentioned that they might or might not work for someone else but I figured I'd post something about them being how they gave me results.
My biopsies always showed yeast in addition to hyperkeratosis (inflammation) in the area so, that led me to believe that it was a possible overgrowth of yeast that I needed to control somehow.
The thing about probiotics is that many of the cultures die in the acids of your stomach before they get to where they are needed. This is why I tried to find a timed release probiotic that could survive the stomach acidity and start breaking up in the intestines where they would be the most beneficial.
I began seeing a change around 2 weeks into taking the probiotics but continued to use them for months after. The only change I did to my diet was unplanned fasting because I still ate garbage.
My job is VERY stressful and sometimes I am lucky if I can even eat twice, let alone once a day. When you drive a semi-truck that is about 1/4 of a street block long you don't have many places to park before someone begins to bitch about how you are blocking them, or a cop says that I'm obscuring the sight of traffic or some other stupid reason. I have a love/hate relationship with driving a truck but I truly long for the day when I can find something else to do that I like that pays just as good or better.
But to answer your inquiry at the end of your post, the probiotics helped me to place my EC in a dormant state only. I am not 100% cured at this moment.
