I made a trip to my GI specialist yesterday and was very very disappointed. After telling my story to him, he said that there is no such thing as yeast infection in the gut. The Candida theory has been floating around in internet for years but there is no proof. ( He is supposed to be a specialist in treating IBS!)
Anyways, he strongly recommended me to take METAMUCIL everyday to add fiber. I told him I eat a lot of fibrous foods and he was not convinced. Kept on insisting on me to take METAMUCIL. ( I am not doing that, as I know it can be habit forming and hurt me in long run!)
He gave me a probiotic to try called VSL#3. http://www.crohns.net/page/C/PROD/Probiotic/VSL1000
It has 450 billion strains of bacteria.
I had one dosage last time. I am feeling alright but great!
So much for my long awaited trip to a GI specialist. He seemed very very closed minded to me. Any comments?
