Where I suggest what to eat when weak.
Some recommendations that could do well for nursing mothers in
that reply!
For building breast-milk, i strongly recommend
SWEET BROWN RICE AND MOCHI!
As a nursing mother, I only LOST milk once. I lost it because I had been working too much; I had a lot of stress during christmas-time, I had not slept enough at night and I wanted to join a course during the week-end.
My 4-month old daughter was with me on the work-shop. This was my 3rd child. I have 5 children. I felt tired and it was too much
to follow the course, take care of the baby and breast-feed in the same time.
But as I knew exactly what to do, I went home to cook a nice and strong healty "LONG-COOKED-VEGETALBE", OR NISHIME. You can find different way`s of prepearing this in Macrobiotic cooking books.
Theese slow boiled root-vegetalbes have a lot of energy, and gives you exactly the warm and strong energy you need in food while feeding your baby!
As I ate the vegetables; Alrady on the first bite!!
I felt how the milk was already running back into my breast!
And baby was very happy again already the same evening.
Next day we went back to join the class.
You do as follows:
Cut big mouth-right size pieces of ROOT-VEGETABLES.
If you can buy or find BURDOCK or DANDELION-ROOTS in your area,
this would very well boil wiht CARROTS. Or choose any other
root-vegetables. Heat up a little olive-oil in a big pot,
stir at medioum heat, to saute the vegetables for a while.
Dont let go brown! After about 10-15 minuts, sprinkle a little
SEA-SALT over, cover with a lid and reduce the heat to low flame;
LET BOIL FOR ALMOST 1 HOUR ON VERY LOW FLAME. STIR CAREFULLY A FEW TIMES DURING COOKING-HOUR. SEASON WITH MISO, SEA-SALT, BRAGGS OR TAMARI, AND ADD SOME GREEN FRESH PARSLEY (OR OTHER GREENS)AT THE END.
Together with pressurecooked round brown rice and/or sweet brown rice, This nice preparation makes a whole nice dinner.
It is very strong medical food!
Fennel cooked or eaten raw as it is is a very
stimulating vegetable while breast-feeding.
Be aware about that any bad quality salt and industrial food, including SUGARS. Has a very negative influence on producing mothers-milk.
If your baby tends to be sensitive and easily get colics or stomach-pain. Don`t awoid to eat vegetables, beans, onions, peas or cabbage as it is often said!! AVOID ANY RAFFINED SUGARS!! THE
Sugar AND SWEETS ALWAYS CAUSES THE REACTION. The proteins and vegetables you eat will do good, but
Sugar or fruit (grapes/bananas) at the same meal will cause the colic-troubles!
