I continue to eat fish several times a week - usually salmon, and always wild and never farm-raised. What makes salmon such a good fish is its supply of the omega-3 and 6 oils. When they do not eat what they would eat in the wild, this is altered and the fish is not as healthy for you. Also, the flesh of the salmon is pale gray with farm-raised fish - they add coloring to make it look "normal." I won't touch it, personally. I have found ways to find affordable wild salmon - often you can buy it frozen in large amounts.
I think the mercury thing in fish is a scam, to divert us from looking at the real source of mercury that can hurt us -
Amalgam fillings. The amount of mercury leached from a filling every day, constantly, is so much greater than what we get in a fish it's laughable.
Trout is also an excellent fish, if you prefer freshwater and then you can get away from some of the mercury issues. I agree, I don't want to eat mercury at all, but I think continuing to eat high-quality fish is important.
Are you eating high amounts of dairy and gluten in your pregnancy? You should be avoiding these more than mercury in fish - except for cultured yogurt.
