I think our bodies are wise enough in their OP "exposure" to essential nutrients that our cell membranes in the mouth pick up those molecules which go directly to the blood stream. How else could we explain that the soles of our feet are softer and that our skin has such youthful radiance even though NOTHING else in our personal care has been altered?
Here are two websites that may help explain this more eloquently than I can.
"...process is known as pinocytosis (cell drinking)...."
* Cell membrane structure
o Constitutes a barrier for the cell (the phospholipid bilayer).
o Controls membrane fluidity.
o Controls the flow of material in and out of the cell membrane..."

According to biologymad.com, molecules can enter, and there is also a means for an exodus. It is a difficult concept for many of us just because we can't see the action with our naked eye.
The following link for comparing the relative sizes of cells and organisms gives a little perspective
BTW, you may have already heard or read this.
"Olive oil contains natural anti-inflammatory agent... Named oleocanthal by the researchers, the compound inhibits activity of cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, a pharmacological action shared by ibuprofen."
and a NIH site states the same.
You'll note a sensation was first detected in the throat. Olive oil was the target of that study, but other extra virgin plant oils have so many similar characteristics. Along with oil's EFA's, its anti-inflammatory compounds protect us from a host of ills, including cancer and heart disease. How many people had reported they sleep better since beginning OP? Is it because of oleocanthal or the EFA's being supplied to our nervous system? We haven't even scratched the surface about oil's gifts to our healthful living.
