This is a reply to # 878,289I'm interested...considering that my symptoms fit "mites" like a glove.
I'm having success with apple cider vinegar scalp soaks (currently every other day) and the Ponds cold cream on my face, neck, chest and back (I leave it on for about 5 minutes, then washcloth off)... So far, it seems to really be helping.
Shroom, did you try the demedox shampoo from that one website? I'm hoping it will work, as I would like to treat my whole family, and the thought of having to soak everyone's heads in vinegar on a repeated basis doesn't seem like it will go over to well... :)
If I was a guy, I think I'd just shave my head and spend the next few months appling the zinc oxide/boric acid paste that I have onto my scalp. As it is, I'm going to try other things for a few more months in an effort to save my locks...but if worse comes to worse, I may just shave and wear a LOT of hats this winter... Having future hair and health would be worth a few months of shiney scalp.

This is a reply to # 878,417Put Ponds on your scalp before bedtime, wrap your head with a turban and leave it on all night. It takes a couple of days to wash it all out. Did you see the movie Water World? Remember how they all had goop in their hair?

This is a reply to # 878,522I've thought of that...I know it works for lice, etc... The problem with these mites is that they take a looooong time to kill... (eggs take 15-20 days to hatch and come out of the skin, if I remember correctly). Meaning, a LONG time of greasy hair. I tried it for 3 days, with a diaper rash creme that really worked, but by the third day, my hair looked really nasty.
Maybe I'll alternate the Ponds with a few other things. The apple cider seems to work, and so does spraying my scalp down with a special alchohol/tea tree oil cleaner I have (which also kills lice), but that strips my hair of all oils. So maybe if I add the Ponds in there... :) What a crazy summer it's going to be.
I hope the shampoo from demodex works... It's expensive, but it would be so nice if there was something simple like it that would help. We're in the middle of a move, and are building our new place, so I'm going to be "camping" all summer long (with five children) while our new place gets finished up...so any crazy scalp protocols are going to be REALLY hard to do...

This is a reply to # 878,417Hang on to yer horses Horsezan. Don't go shave'n just yet. I am going to try something much simpler. Besides, if I'm right, these things may not be demodex, or even mites for that matter. And they could be blood-borne. shroom

What finally worked for me was using a good tea tree oil shampoo and tea tree oil cream rinse that I leave in. Every couple of months, I feel them trying to start up again though. I'm thinking that boric acid is safe for the eyes, so I can even use boric acid on my eyelashes and eyebrows. The creepy little mites have eaten over half my eyelashes. UGH! and I don't think tea tree oil is safe around the eyes!

This is a reply to # 878,289Is there possibly a way that you can ozonate your hair in water. This may work worth a shot anyway.
