Medically they don't want to stitch up a dog bite, they want them to ooze if the bite needs to or may lightly stitch to avoid a ugly scar, etc.. for large bites. To stitch up an animal bite is never a good idea.
The alcohol in the tinctured herbs was a GREAT IDEA! Taking Oregano oil would have been perfect, oliveoil won't be doing much for a bite.
When in doubt do medical for punctures, but when you feel confident enough to treat yourself, keep an eye open for blood poisoning/fevers, etc...and always the fear of rabies.
In fear of rabies, I would use alcohol, then iodine and pack with cayenne powder. Then 1 drop of oregano every hour (8 daily) for the first 7 days.
