A few years ago I realized I had severe Magnesium deficiency. I drink about 4 - 6 beer a night with only about one or two nights off per week. I started taking magnesium which relived the heart palpitation very quickly. About a month ago my palpitations returned even after taking magnesium. When I increased my magnesium they began to go away. The next day they came back. I was very confused, but I noticed a slight "discomfort" where my thyroid gland is. I thought maybe I am deficient in iodine. So I went into my cupboard and found some Iodine
stowed away and popped four drops. To my amazement the heart palpitations were gone and I had nothing but a smooth beat. I did a bit or research and found I was deficient in iodine. I started taking Lugols
2% solution and quickly (with in a few days) built up to 10 drops a day. I also kept my magnesium levels high. I noticed I felt great every day and even if I slipped in a few extra beers of the evening I still felt fantastic the next day.
After about three weeks (after starting the iodine) I started to notice a occasional flutter/palpitation in my chest. Lasted only a few seconds, and I thought it was me not having enough magnesium..so I would pop a magnesium capsule. It would go away. This occurred for a few days, until one day in the afternoon the palpitations came and they have not gone away. I increased my magnesium and it would help but not get rid of them. I was confused until I read that this could be a detox effect. The palpitations are also accompanied by about a 50% loss of appetite, a slight shortness of breath when lying down to try to sleep, and this morning a slight headache in the back of my head and dry mouth.
I quit the Iodine
two days ago and today the loss of appetite is not as severe but it is still there. However the palpitations are still there. The only way I get some relief is more magnesium and cayenne drops.
More info: Part of my daily routine even before this episode is a B complex vitamin, k2 vitamen, and Vitamin A with Selenium and blue berry extract for antioxidants. I been taking these before my palpitations started, but I do seem to remember the day palpitations started full time I might of slipped on a few vitamins.
First of all does this seem like detox related? If so how long does it take for the detox effects to stop after quitting iodine? Would activated charcoal help get rid of symptoms?
NOTES: I also take vitamen C and tried the salt deal a few times...but did not help.
