It is a setup (to belittle you and train you to accept further abuse as though you deserve it...YOU DO NOT DESERVE IT, no one would deserve abuse). He's giving you the old "Boo Hoo" bit (woe is me, you're embarrassing me BECAUSE I'm so superior to you).

The relationship didn't really start out right (long distance, never really good).

Yes, you need a dose of reality, he is an "abuser" NOW (in the future, the PRESENT abuse/beratement will likely become physical). A neglectful uncaring "LOVER?!!!" is abusive (PRESENT, plain and simple).

Leave him (or else it will get worse and destroy your life).
