--Testimonials--The curious incident of salmon in a can--

There are a few things I have always prided myself on not eating. One of those
was tinned food. I may have on occassion turned a blind eye to canned tomatoes
or beans but not since my childhood have I sampled soggy asparagus or beetroot
unleashed from the humble can. Highest on the list of detested canned food was
fish [ok I may have had tuna sometimes]. I find very few foods less appealing
than a can of something that looks and smells like cat food, well maybe kelp
powder.

Moreless recommended I eat Alaskan salmon to fill the gaps in my diet. I am in
the southern hemisphere so the prized salmon is only available to me in a can. I
will give most reasonable things a go in the name of health so it was off to
market with my bad past experiences and food snobbery shoved to the back of my
mind. I did choose the red salmon over the pink variety - one must retain
gourmet standards somehow.

Having made clear my stance on canned food you can imagine my surprise at the
relish with which i just enjoyed my last meal - a tinned alaskan salmon salad.
In the supermarket whilst thoroughly reading the labels to insure the
authenticity of my cold water fish, my mouth was literally watering and I could
not wait to get it home and feast. Even weirder was the simulaneous repulsion
and longing for the contents once I opened the can. My mind was saying
revolting, my body was saying I want this - NOW! It took much willpower to stop
myself from gorging it before I could arrange it in the fine company of fresh
celery hearts, parsley, lemon zest, radish, scallion and sun dried olives -
delicious.

And the point to this self indulgent rambling? Clearly my body is longing for
something the salmon will provide. Maybe little by little my instincts are
becoming sharper. Maybe one day I will be able to lay out a 'buffet' of
ingredients from which to make my meal and I will instinctively choose the ones
I need. Ah, one can only dream of becoming as smart as Maya's puppy! In the mean
time I guess I will just ask Moreless.
