Re: New Vegitarian- Healthy Diet?

First you have to figure out what kind of veg. you are going to be. There's lacto-ovo-veg (very common) which is a veg. that eats milk products & eggs. Some people do a variation of both. Some people (not me--I've just heard this) still consider themselves veg and eat fish & seafood....whatever.

Then there are vegans who don't eat eggs, cheese, milk, or any animal products(yes, even honey)...and still some of those will not use ANY products from an animal. Leather shoes? Out. Soap with tallow in it, OUT!

Then there is a group that is Raw. Yeah there are raw foodists that eat raw animal products too. Raw vegans, that's what I am trying to be right now. Still further are sproutarians and fruitarians. Gets a little harder to do at that point I think.

I think most veg. would agree fresh and hopefully organic produce is best. There are tons of websites:
http://www.vegweb.com,

http://www.vegetablemafia.com,

http://www.goneraw.com
that give you advice & tips on recipes & foods to buy. I must say I feel much healthier for being veg for over a year and raw vegan 80% since May. And the food! I've never eatten so much food with such a great variety! International recipes are awesome! I never get bored! Here's some stuff you MAY want to try along with all your fresh fruit & veggies....

Tofu-(soft has more fat usually, firmer less fat) but people debate how healthy it is for you
Beans-must love beans all kinds :) great source of protein & fiber!
Hemp seeds, flax seeds, all types of nuts, Miso, Nori sheets (seaweed), sprouts
the list could go on forever. Google veg recipes or vegan and there are tons of sites that give you shopping lists. Also,
http://www.fitday.com
you can plug your daily meals into this to make sure you are getting what your body needs & watch your calories, etc..and it's free.

Good luck on the journey! I hope you dive into it! I've lost about 20 lbs from it (incidentally), cleared up a few nagging issues, and had a wonderous detoxification of my body....oh yeah and then there is the peace it brings me :) I can;t say enough about it so let me shut up!
E-mail me if you need. Good luck
Peace
