Females in their 40's start going through what is called "The Climateric" (some actually start sooner but 90+ % start in their 40's). this is the time when your remaining eggs get more and more resistant to the Follicular Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and more and more of it is produced by the pitituary gland because of the feedback cycle that controls it. Estrogen is the feedback hormone that comes form the developeing egg (oocyte). "The Climateric" usually last for about 10 years until menopause (the stopping of periods for 1 full year is the definition.)"The Climateric" is when many females start having hot flushes because of the unusual hormone fluctions, and many notice that their "normal" cycle is getting farther and farther apart. These hormone swings can make your cycles heavier or lighter and can be controlled by replacing the natural hormones with synthetic hormones. If the bleeding is to much it should be evaluated for possible emdometrial cancer.
I hope this helps a little. At least to understand what you are going thru. And to confirm you are "normal" .
