21 days is quite aggressive for a first fast. The detox can leave you very weak, unless you are exceptionally healthy to begin with.
The suggestion to do a week was a good one. My first fast was 1 week followed with 1 week of juice. I continued to lose a lot of weight on the juice and it gave me more energy to cope with the daily grind. It also was a great transition back to solid foods.
