Bio-K acidophilus

On a whim I decided to try this stuff, I figured if it costs $26 at my local health food store for what amounts to 6-12 servings, maybe you get what you pay for. I have to say... I think in this case you do. I don't have a problem with some cultured dairy, I used to make my own kefir and currently I'm making my own home made 24 hour ferment yogurt from goat milk and that seems to digest fine, but I wasn't noticing a ton of benefit in terms of better digestion, etc. from friendly microbes. This Bio-K is a dairy culture, it tastes similar to fresh kefir, and I have really noticed a difference since I started it, in the sense I have less bloating, more pooping. (I tend toward constipation, but I do still take Barefoot Herbalist's Lower Bowel Balance formula at night.) I'm on a cheater's version of the SCD diet - no grains, no sugars except fruit and honey are allowed, but basically I'm just doing the fruit, and when we eat out about once a week, I'll sometimes do a little grains, not ask about the sauce, eat a small piece of bread, etc. I wouldn't doubt I still have plenty of Candida and other bugs, my homeopath, who may or may not know what she's talking about, says my main problem is protozoa that keep mutating vs. the yeast so much, but I think she's underestimating the yeast and the reason it's not testing is that I've had it for so long it's sort of become part of me.

In any case, I think between generally following the diet (certainly cutting out all grains has made the most difference) and using this Bio-K dairy culture product (I take half a bottle a day, sometimes a whole bottle if I've been bad with something sweet), my symptoms - the GI ones, anyway, are pretty significantly reduced, and "cheating" with carbs or sugars doesn't send me into a bloated, farting, butt-itching tailspin like it typically would. What that would mean on a blood or stool test, I don't know, but thank god for regular poops and not looking 8 months pregnant all the time.
