Hi- I'm glad you have decided to use your diet to improve your health. It is one of the most powerful tools we have. How did you decide on this diet?
I, myself, have not strictly adhered to the diet above, although my diet is about 60-70% as described. I have had one mild outbreak in my life that I know of, and haven't had one since. I decided to follow that diet strictly in the case of an outbreak.
I am an acupuncturist and herbalist. I believe that balance is very important to overall health. I'm afraid that a 90% fruit diet can be harmful in the long run. While it may be ok for occasional cleansing, fruit only is a high Sugar diet. I fear that your intestinal flora will become unbalanced, causing yeast overgrowth, and hence a predisposition to OB's. This is likely why you got those OB's during your period. In chinese medicine terms, too much cold natured raw foods (fruits) can damage the spleen. A weakened spleen causes an increase in dampness, which is akin to mucus. Eating a more balanced diet is the best way to prevent illness. That is why I have chosen to not follow that diet all the time. It lacks balance. So while fruit is an awesome thing for your health and immunity, too much can throw you off balance, which is worse. Sometimes in acute illness, like an outbreak, you may want to use more extreme diets to help your body restore balance. But when you are healthy, your goal is to maintain balance. I believe the best way to do this is to eat a variety of fresh whole foods, including grains, beans, nuts, and of course, fruits and veggies. If you are a raw foodist, you should be eating more veggies and seeds.
It's like that whole arginine thing. While the herpes virus uses arginine to build, arginine is also an important amino acid for your immune system. So strengthen your immune system when the virus is dormant by eating arginine rich food.
The above is my opinion. I am pretty open when it comes to diet (although certain processed foods should be avoided as much as possible). Everyone has to find something that works for them. But I feel pretty strongly that an all-fruit diet is not good for you for any length of time. If you have loose stools, that is a good sign that your diet needs adjustment. Also, longer term effects to name a few could be hair loss, muscle atrophy, and, I'm thinking, bone density issues. Take care of yourself girl! Don't be obsessed with the idea of killing the virus. It is the idea of war in our bodies that can cause us to use cures that are worse than the disease itself. We must focus on strengthening our bodies, because the immune system is this amazing and complicated matter that we can't try to compete with. No meds, herbs, or radical diet can do more for your health than a strong body and calm mind.
