I did read that vaccination post from farther down. Scares the crap out of me, but so does the info I'm getting from my breeder who is also a vet tech about what she sees sometimes when people don't vaccinate. I need to get more information on the concept of daily Colloidal Silver for pets, I am still unsure whether that's wise, given that I understand it is sort of a mild Antibiotic and chronic use of antibiotic, even natural ones, I believe harms healthy flora and depresses the immune system, but if the alternative is heartworm drugs and vaccines, of course I would choose the silver. I will talk to my holistic vet about it as well, it's been a number of years since I visited with her and she may be more well read on some of these topics by now.
I did find a yahoo group as mentioned in someone else's post lower down and still waiting to hear if I've been accepted to participate. I am starting to go on information overload, the research is starting to overwhelm me, and pretty soon I'm going to be up to my eyeballs in potty training and other puppy stuff.
I found another website online started by a woman who cured her old, small-breed dog's heartworm with nature's sunshine herb combos, and she recommends one as a preventative in place of heartworm drugs. I think some herbs can be a little toxic to the live over the long haul, so I need to investigate that as well. The other thing is what I've read that it's not necessarily serious or life-threatening for a dog to have a certain parasite load, even heartworm. I gotta take issue with that because it doesn't make sense to me to not do something about that, and I know that can all be passed to humans no matter what your vet says, and I definitely do not want to get infected with heartworms. If I don't go the traditional route with that, I will definitely get her screened routinely.
