Thank you all for your responses. I am aware of the health benefits of "good fats". I am not a believer in the high carb low fat diets. I am also not a believer in the atkins diet, as it can cause long term gastrointestinal problems, depletion of brain glycogen leading to cognitive problems, and rapid muscular glycogen depletion. I am an exercise physiologist. I have had clients who were on atkins pass out during workouts. I don't say that to be discourageing, but a balance (closer to the zone) seems to be among the safest diet approaches from all angles. Anyway, the reason I asked about the olive oil is because of the sheer volume ingested at one time. Even a half cup is well above the daily allotment of monunsaturated fats. The suppose the efficiency of a clean liver outways the slight increase in daily calories.
