I think your absolutely on the right track.
Once you have succeeded in a set goal you will feel a sense of accomplishment.
Just try for a 24 hour Water Fast as a goal. A 24 hr fast can bring about some wonderful health improvements.
The book by Paul Bragg - "The Miracle of Fasting" is great for information on 24 hour fasts. And he is great at giving motivation for doing them.
