Melatonin

Melatonin is a hormone secreted by the pineal gland in the brain during sleep. Melatonin is vital for the maintenance of normal body rhythms, especially the sleep-wake cycle, and appears to play a critical role in many other body functions. Recently melatonin has been successfully tested as a cure for insomnia. The production of melatonin declines dramatically with age. Today many researchers suspects that melatonin may be a natural anti-aging hormone.

Synthetic forms of melatonin are sold in natural food stores in tablets or capsule forms in 3- milligram strength. Ocassional use preferred.

The benefits of Melatonin are Longevity, insomnia and breast cancer. The use of Melatonin prolong life span by more the 15% by helping reduce stress and improving the functioning of the immune system in the body.

Studies have shown that melatonin may be a potent sleep aid. Melatonin can induce sleep in within 5 or 6 minutes and sleep twice as long as those not taking melatonin.
