The concepts of feminine and masculine are very different from the fact of gender/sex. You are either male or female, (with a few exceptions), genetically. Whether you are masculine or feminine depends on many factors, your upbringing, the culture you live in, your personality, masculine or feminine traits are not determined by the sex you are born with. Its all about social conditioning.
Is a quiet, gentle, nurturing man, who perhaps enjoys looking after children, less of a man than a loud, rough, tough man, that enjoys sports and cars??
It is gender sterotyping that expects us all to be the same, eg: all men should behave the same, like the same things, dress the same, and the same goes for women.
To say that removing gender sterotypes will make people all the same is ridiculous. People are individuals with different personality traits, regardless of their gender. Gender sterotypes narrow the ability of an individual to express their individuality.
IMHO, these sterotypes have led to a great deal of unhappiness in our society. Many people who don't fit the masculine or feminine ideal, feel alienated and disconnected.
