Not sure if you are circumisized or not, but the smell is called smegma, basically it's dead skin cells and oils from the foreskin and glans. I used to have the same problem, until I found out as a teenager that you have to pull the foreskin completely back and throughly wash it. I'm sure you know, but I can't understand why the Doctor would not say what type of bacteria it is. I can understand your frustration, hopefully, HV can help...
