Many of the bible verses that MM posted were the same ones that my friend and I discussed. She will be reading this thread, so I am hoping she will post herself, then she can tell you in her own words which particular verses she has problems with.

What she did note when leaving islam,(she comes from a country that is subject to sharia law), and becoming a christian, was that the attitude to women was much the same, only less overtly practised. The first church she joined was a pentecostal church, and the beliefs of this church were very oppressive to women. Including the rules that women were not allowed to cut their hair, and many dress regulations for women, including the length of skirt they could wear, women not allowed to wear trousers or jeans. There were many other rules regarding women, I just don't remember all of them.

She didn't believe that she should have to obey a man, or that she should be submissive to a man.

She was quite shocked, that what she thought was a belief system where women would be seen as equal to men, turned out to be just the opposite.
