I think the relationship between governments and these global corporations goes much deeper than any of us will ever know.

Our Prime Minister has proposed a tax on these large mining companies, (Bhp is BP), this tax will help keep some of the profits that these corporations make from mining our finite recources, in our country, rather than going overseas as it does now.

Of course, as expected the big corporations are crying foul, and threatening all sorts of payback.

The whole mess of the oil leaking into your oceans, and the threats made to our country, shows very clearly the power that these giant corporations have. If you want to know where the real power is, where the real control is, don't look to governments, look to the global corporations, these are the entities that run the world we live in. I admire our PM for taking them on, but its a battle he wont win.
