Re: Appearances lie. Why do you keep believing them?
I agree, and this is not just about
appearances of trouble, it is about
BP hiring scientists to shut up and
now, others are stepping up to warn
the people. It is about hiding the
death of animals and the statistics
of people getting ill. It is about
where the oiled cleanup debris went
and where did they bury the oiled
animals?? There are a lot of questions
to be answered, and yet, BP and the
Obama administration is actively busy
sweeping this event under the sand so
to speak, and news reports are also
content not to make it an issue any
more.
Me, in my mind, it is still a HUGE
issue. My family is also there and
I am concerned because the oil that
the government is working so hard to
convince me is "gone", could come
and contaminate the place where I
live, during a hurricane.
Living in the Gulf area, I am also
concerned because people will be
selling and serving Gulf food
which is not being tested for heavy
metals and dispersants, etc. If
this is the way the government is
going to conduct business in the
Gulf, who needs enemies. And yeah,
lawyers, being lawyers, they will
take advantage at every turn, but
the average person needs INFORMATION
to limit their exposure to the toxins
and to be able to make choices whether
to stay or leave. I hated that during
the Exxon Valdez event so many listened
to the petroleum company and the government
who insisted over and over it was safe
and of course, decades later, the total
opposite bore out as truth. There is oil
everywhere there still and the damage
remains evident and the health repercussions
still ongoing. It is not a stretch to say
that the government ONLY learned that telling
lies over and over will work and that the
way to limit liability is to lie. So in
the GOM event, the lies are steady and
strong. It is up to us to raise our own
awareness and to communicate with others
our concerns so that WE at least learn
from the mistakes of those who believed
Exxon and the government 20-some years
ago.
