Does this higher-end crown typically cause immune reactions?

Pretty rare to have an immune reaction to such.

Will a biocompatibility test tell me beforehand if they're in fact a problem for me, personally?

I dont have much faith in such a test.
What symptoms do you have? A Rash or irritation of the gums might indicate a problem,more typical of nickel though.
