Re: weight loss, which is better; olive oil/coconut oil?

Don't you find that Women's magazines often recommend gimmicks!

I don't know about using oil for weight loss. To me, weight loss is more a natural result of cleaning up the diet in general and getting rid of the junk that's not supposed to be in my body.

Fruit juice fasting helped me to get to my ideal weight, although that isn't the main reason I fast periodically.

Of the 2 oils you mention, I think olive oil is better, as long as it's the "good stuff". The olive (both its oil and its leaves) has been treasured since antiquity.

Apparently, some of the olive oil in the supermarket may have canola oil added to it. I'm not sure if that's true, but I wouldn't trust the quality of most supermarket oils anyway.

I did a lot of research a while ago and ended up buying several bottles of a high-quality olive oil direct from California. They grow the olives and prepare the oil themselves. I'm sure there are other good ones; I bought Bariani and I'm really pleased with it.

I've heard stories of people being able to live while consuming only olive oil. (Can you imagine?)

I've heard that maybe about 1/4 cup a day is a good amount to consume.

I also use small amounts of coconut oil. I have yet to find a source that I trust; I just buy it from the health food store. I use it for stir-frying.

Again, to me, it's not so much about weight loss as replacing what I think are "bad fats" like margarine and lard, with good fats like olive oil and coconut oil. My one thought coconut oil is, since it's semi-solid at room temperature, it might also clog up the body. That's why I only use it in small amounts and think that overall, olive oil is better.

Hope this helps,
Peace and Blessings,
