Re: Man found guilty over race hate video
Inciting violence is not a victimless crime. This is why he was sent to prison. People do have an implied right to free speech, but they do not have the right to abuse and attack others, because of their beliefs, their race, or their ethnicity. There is no "right" to free speech in my country, it is an implied right, one that should not be used to harm others.
People also have the implied right to go about their business, without having people screaming hate at them, and attacking them. There must be a line drawn, where free speech is not allowed to be used to attack another, for no other reason than irrational hatred. How sad it is, that there has to be laws to stop people behaving in this manner.
No-one was stopping this man believing what he likes, or saying what he likes, in private, or to like minded people, but inciting violence towards a group of people, is punished, as it should be. I'm very glad I live in a country that does not accept this as being ok.
Racism and bigotry are disgusting, repulsive traits, (I've seen some great examples of these traits right here on this forum, and other CZ forums, and all over the internet), as revolting as this is, it is not inciting violence, and it is not physically attacking another, merely nasty people, spewing nasty words. When it becomes more than this, it is appropriate that the people are punished, at least in my country.
I guess if Brendan wanted to spew his hatred all over the internet, and attack and abuse people publicly, he should have moved to a country more tolerant of this behaviour.
This is not merely a case of hurt feelings. It is much more than that.
