having Gut problems, don't know where to start??
I am a 20year old female, i have had bowel problems for the last 3 years. I want to get it sorted but i don't know what wrong and am not getting any support from my GP and gastroenterologist.
Around the age of 17 i began to have abdominal discomfort and swelling of my gut, constipation, flatulence and lack of energy.I eat a very
healthy Diet and exercise regularly.
My GP put me on many different laxative which work initially but after a week or so the problems re-occurred. due to lack of support i just put up with it for a couple of years, but it didn't get better... in fact got worse.
This re-prompted me to visit the GP. He then finally referred me to a gastonenterologist which sent me for a colonoscopy, however the results were inconclusive and started me on the new IBS drug for women. This gave me a massive allergic reaction and made me very ill for 4days. i was advised to stop the drug as the symptoms remained.
I don't know if its relevant but i have had lots of problems with my menstrual cycle frequency. This seems to have effect on BM's. The GPs advice was to go on the pill which doesn't agree with me.
I have tried excluding various foods from my diet such as dairy and gluten which has a positive effect at first but then tappers off similar to the laxatives. Changes seem to only work short term.
So now i am at a lose of what to do next? any help would be greatly appreciated.
