I have raw maca powder here that I haven't eaten since last year sometime. I stopped eating it because I didn't notice any difference. I also read about some people developing some pretty bad hives from the raw maca, although I never had that type of effect.
However, when I was still able to tolerate alcohol, I was taking the maca tincture from HerbPharm and man, there was definitely benefits to taking it. But I can't have alcohol anymore, and I'm worse than then, so I don't know if maca in general is a wise choice for me right now.
As far as Royal maca, yeah, I've seen that before, but I thought it was just some marketing ploy to make their maca seem more fancy or something.
